Flu Vaccine Information
Flu vaccines are now available for all age groups.
Getting a flu shot is the most important measure to prevent influenza and its complications. An annual flu shot is recommended for all people aged 6 months and over.
This year the flu vaccine will be administered in a normal consultation with your GP. We will not be taking names for waiting lists or running flu vaccine clinics.
PLEASE NOTE: There must be at least 14 days in between having a flu vaccine and a Covid-19 vaccine. Who can get a flu shot for free?
Children aged 6 months to less than 5 years of age
Pregnant women (can be given at any stage of pregnancy)
People aged 5 years and over with medical risk conditions, namely:
chronic lung conditions, such as severe asthma or chronic obstructive airways disease
other chronic illnesses requiring regular medical follow up such as diabetes
weak immune systems, such as kidney failure or being on immunosuppressant medications or steroids
Everyone 65 years and over. We offer a strong “adjuvanted quadrivalent” vaccine to this group to further strengthen immunity.
If you are over 65 and eligible for a government vaccine, please ensure to book at our surgery with one of our GP's to receive the correct vaccine for your age group, to be supervised in the event of an adverse reaction and to have the vaccine documented in your patient file.
If you are not eligible for a government-funded free vaccine, the cost of the vaccine is $20.
Brief appointments solely for the purpose of receiving a flu vaccine are usually bulk-billed. If your doctor addresses other issues in the same appointment you will be charged our usual fee.
Quality Medical Care for more than 65 years
The doctors and staff at Kilsyth Medical Group aim to offer excellence in the provision of comprehensive medical care.
First established in 1955, the practice was the original in the area. Operated by Dr Ken Leversha, practicing from his home (which is now the child care centre next door). The surgery extended into our current building a short time later with Dr John Monkman joining the practice.
Kilsyth Medical Group gained full Accreditation in 2019, per Quality Practice Accreditation Standards
